Have you seen the Fire Station 27 new digs? Have you seen Fire Station 19 new digs? It amazes me how opulent they are. All it really takes is two bays, a living area for the crews and an exercise area. Here's the old fire station they abandoned down the street from #19s

Default Yea well,

The condition of city streets? Streets can need repair. Opinions will vary.
San Antonio is the fastest growing city in the U.S.? Maybe that is why there is so much street construction.
The real trouble with street construction is....that it is all scab labor. The only people that move slower are the workers at the Post Office and Civil Service. The streets take forever to complete , and so is very hilarious. There is a stretch of UTSA Blvd. between I-10 and Babcock and they have been working in there for three years. This is entirely ridiculous.

By the year 2050 it is said San Antonio city size will rival Chicago. Money must be spent, none of this commerce and growth stuff is cheap, it costs money. Besides. Cutting corners is no way to do business. Don't do it on the cheap.

Maybe nobody has considered the kinds of things the city will have to stop doing if it has to devote a much higher percentage of the budget to benefits? Tired of seeing so much street and sidewalk repair? Had your fill of new police and fire stations?

Sculley, hired by the city in 2005, pulled in nearly $590,000 in total compensation from Oct. 1, 2015 to Sept. 30, 2016. Total compensation refers to the employee's base salary and any other benefits or financial incentives, such as car allowances, additional money for new certifications or even clothing allowances.

Six members of the police and fire department - including Fire Chief Charles Hood and Police Chief Willam McManus - also made the top 20 list.
Hood raked in slightly more than McManus in terms of total compensation - around $266,000 versus around $258,000 - although the police chief's base salary is higher.

The city of San Antonio paid more than $972 million in total compensation to employees in FY 2016. Included in that figure is more than $49 million in overtime. The 100 employees who made the most overtime were either in the police or fire departments.
