I have some good news for you, there is a group of local Asian business owners that have gathered together and bought some land near Bandera and 1604. The are going to build a large Asian grocery store, and shopping center out there. This will be a lot larger and more modern then the Asian grocery stores that we currently have in SA. It will be styled after one in North Austin which is very nice, clean, and well-organized.

My wife has a photography business Moderator cut: link and has been invited to join in the group. I was suppose to go to a meeting with the group back at the end of 2010, but fell ill and wound up in the hospital. They were suppose to have already broken ground on the project, but I will get more info on it and post it here for any who are interested.

Oh I've been there, the Chinatown on North Lamar. Real nice. That's really exciting news. I'm interested in being kept informed.

Yes, please keep us posted. Maybe they will have a “real” Chinese restaurant there that does not serve buffet but authentic Chinese dishes and bubble tea. The only other places I found in SA that are close is Kim Wah BBQ and Phoenix Café on West Avenue.

Maybe they'll get a branch of First Chinese BBQ from Austin.

That would be great. I have also told the owner of Ding Ho BBQ in Austin to open up a location in SA.

The one in Austin is nice, I hope in the future our chinatowns will be similar to San Fransico.

San Antonio, a Chinatown? That would take some sort of real cultural diversity, which this city is still working on. Houston has a great Chinatown, as well as some truly impressive Asian grocery stores. I'd recommend the 2 hour drive if that what you're looking for.
