WOW! I'm blown away by all the schools / distrcts in the S.A. area! We are coming from a VERY small town and looking at S.A. is quite interesting but overwhelming.

We are pretty sure we'll rent for the first year just to ensure we don't get huge buyers remorse but here's what we'd like. Would you all let me know if it's possible?

* GREAT schools! (I'm very concerned about being in a school that won't tolerate bullying and has a nurturing atmosphere as we are coming from a tiny town & am afraid the kids will get overwhelmed). Of course I'd like them to learn too ;-)

* a light bright house at least 1500 sq. ft. with a decent, fenced yard & community facilities i.e. pool, community center.

* around or not much above 1K rent

* prefer 2 story (becaue I'm terrified of floods and want to be able to get to higher ground if need be ;-)

The really tricky thing is that my hubby is retiring from the military & while we will have a paycheck he's looking for work in S.A. but as of now we have no clue where he'll be. He's hoping for something at Lackland.

Okay, am I hoping for too much?

You should have no problem finding rental properties around the 1k mark. Northside has some great schools. Most of the schools though I think will be a shock at first due to the sheer size. Alot of schools are simply overcrowded due to the growth around here. We are off 1604 and Potranco area. There are many rentals around. Check realtor.com for rentals and you will find plenty. 2 stories are easy to find as well. Good luck!
