Yeah, that makes sense. It is a different situation than borrowing smilies from a place that doesn't explicitly offer permission to hotlink to them.

Unless I hear from a MODERATOR, then I'm ok. BTW...are YOU a moderator?
I'm not a moderator, but I do believe that all things are better in moderation.

Speaking of moderators, I did see that this board has a new one whose username is new2sa. Perhaps new2sa can chime in here with some official input?

First and foremost keep in mind the TOS rules:
Terms of Service - City-Data Forum

These two sites that you've mentioned:

Animated Emoticons
BestSmileys.com (http://bestsmileys.com/pageindex.htm - broken link)

are two sites that allow the posting of code directly from their sites (hotlinking). The danger of hotlinking is that once you have posted code for, say, a ball that bounces up and down, that website owner could very well change the "smiley" to, say, a half naked lady bouncing up and down using the very same code. Of course, that will change the "smiley" in your post from a bouncing ball to a naked lady without you doing anything...that's the danger of hotlinking.

Since you folks only have 90 minutes to edit your posts, you can see how this will be a major problem down the road. Just remember, once you post your message and after these 90 minutes, you lose all control over how a hot-linked image looks and old threads get a lot of views on this forum.

And, while there are some seriously rude and crude smileys available, the posting of inappropriate ones can and will result in some issues with the TOS, so be careful whatcha post!
