I changed the settings during shooting, I even changed the lens to get some close up shots.
To see the settings please click on the pix and check the Exif info on Flickr.
I think you were closer than me, and in a completely different spot. I heard the sounds during the finale, but it was not too loud.
It's really very hard to find a dark spot in the city. I was standing on the parking lot between two trucks, however the whole sky was "city light" illuminated.

@elnina,

i was right underneath the action on durango... er chavez. i managed to find a REALLY dark nook under an overhang by the hemisfair apartments and had a clear shot of the tower and the action.

I was on the parking lot E Nueva & St. Mary's
The location was great, just too much of street lights everywhere.
