I have never worked at HEB or even applied there but someone told me once that one way to get in is starting as night stocker and then asking to move up.

I should also say a lot has to do with what you're looking to do with HEB. What type of jobs are you applying to?

Basically anything entry-level.

Do you post non-sense publicly on Facebook or other social media sites? Apart from all the background checks our company does, one thing my team does locally before hiring someone is Google their name , we don't want an knuckleheads on coming to our team.

For Target, your best bet would've been to get hired on just before Christmas as as seasonal staff and then hopefully retained full time.

I rarely post on social media. In fact, I'm sure those people that I've mentioned that were able to get jobs there when I wasn't probably do have racy nonsense posted on theirs.

I'm just gonna go ahead and give up on HEB then because it's obviously not gonna happen. I don't know who this mystery person is who everyone else has to get on their knees for.

Your choice. Rather than trying to figure out if you're possibly doing something wrong - or taking advantage of the insight folks have offered (befriending someone already working there), you're going to just walk away?

He might be better off doing just that. It's hard for me to imagine myself networking my way into a cashier position. There are too many other job opportunities out there for someone to waste their time in one or two companies.

On one hand, I agree. On the other, I know many an upper-management employee at HEB that started as cashier/stocker.

You have to factor in what this really is as well.
Is it just a "job" that he'll have short term, or is it a "career" goal?

HEB has been recognized several times for being one of the best employers in Texas.
Recognition like that doesn't come from just hiring anyone that applies.

If this is just a job and you're frustrated, move along.
If it's a company you really want to work for, then more investigating and work is needed.

I'm just trying to find a half decent, entry-level job. HEB is always recommended as a great place to work but I don't have a clue how people actually get hired there.
