Thanx for the input!!! Ended up buying a watermelon at HEB+ for almost 5 bucks. It was so-so. $2 sounds much better! I'm heading over there today!!!

Remember how to pick them, the ones with the white belly are the best ones to pick, the bigger the white spot the better, that means they have been rippening the longest. Once you get the hang of it you would be an expert at picking just the right one.

hmm, I did not know that. I always got the heavy ones and listened for a certain sound when I tapped them. I didn't really know what the sound meant, but I listened for one that appealed to me. That method always worked, until the last one I bought..

Okay, I know this is a Potranco/1604 thread, but have to ask if anyone has anymore info about some supposed stupid darn project (which according to the news last night very well could include an outlet mall) at Potranco/151? I think there was some talk of this about a year ago, but it seemed to sort of drop off (if it's even the same thing??). Here's the story I found doing a search: 240-acre far West Side development may include outlet mall - San Antonio Business Journal:

Am not happy. If I'm reading the mapquest map right and picturing in my mind the construction already going on at the other areas of Potranco/151, the only area left untouched is right behind my house (and about 15 or so other houses) or the area that's just next to the new Texaco going up. We are seriously going to start looking in to moving out of the city. I love the greenbelt behind me...love the squirrels and all the birds we get. Love seeing the hawks perched on the back fence. Love seeing toads living in my flower beds and watching the lightning bugs at night late in the summer. I just know that with development, much of this will go away and be replaced with bright lights, more pollution, more traffic and congestion, and more noise. *sigh* I realize the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, but do we really need this?

The guy @ potranco and Grosenbacher was selling watermelons for $4-$8 apiece. I was shocked, and left with nothing.

DANG!!! I passed there today, but didn't have time to stop. No loss, I guess. Maybe he read the posts on here about how good they were and figured he could jack up the $$$$ ??

an outlet mall would be nice, but I wouldn't want one in my back yard either..

and $4-8 watermelons now? talk about inflation..
