Hello everyone. I came across a posting from months ago inquiring if anyone knows of a Dominican salon or hairdresser, but there was not much info. Does anyone know or have heard if any in the area now?

I'm looking for one too. In NY I only went to Dominican salons because they know how to handle Puerto Rican Curly hair but have not found one yet.

Ladies welcom to SA. Im from SA but spent a lot of time in NYwith friends and went to college in CT, so I know this slowed down pace may be different. I have a friend who does hair, she may be able to help out. Is there a style your looking for, or should I just ask if she knows a place that does PR/Dom hair. Let me kow and Ill reply. So, what brings you to SA and what do you think of our city?

YESSSS!!!!!! Boriquas in San Antonio!!!!

Sorry...after living in Vegas for 6 years and only meeting one other boriqua I get overjoyed to find places that have more than 1 puerto rican in town!

So coming from NYC how is San Antonio???, we moved to Vegas from Brooklyn 6 years ago and are ready to get the hell out of here. We were looking into Austin but it doesn't sound like the job market is all that great there (DH is a Network Administrator and I work in HR). Have to agree with you on the Dominican hair salons! =D

It's hard to find Boriquas here, at least I think so. In NY a majority of the people are Puerto Ricans, now I come here where I've only met about two of them. I miss going to the grocery store and finding my sofrito and now here my mom makes it for me when she comes on her visits to San Antonio.

Coming from NY to SA has been a little crazy but I love it. I had a small home in NY because that's all we can afford and here in Texas I was able to get so much more for my money. I have two kids and we have plenty of room for all of us. Not to mention that the weather has been great. I don't miss the NY snow. I haven't had much time to be home sick because I'm working all week and then on the weekends we're busy exploring San Antonio. My husband is a Network Administrator as well and had no problem finding a job here.

Oh that's great to know, I won't be as nervous now about the move. You probably also miss being able to just walk to stores like we used to do in NY...it seems in these states everyone goes from house to car to location to car to house, no walking whatsoever (lol). Did you find a hairstylist?

Proud Latina, have you tried the International Food Market? They have everything you need.

Look for some of the black hair salons that may be accustomed to handling Afro-Latino hair.

The Super Target has guineos verdes... (PLATANOS!!) Sometimes they have 'em so cheap, it's ridiculous (39 cents each).

I'll have to check out those PR restaurants. In NYC, Caridad was the bomb! Now that, I do miss.
