For those currently building new homes or planning to do so in the future, I recommend you take detailed photos of your home before the drywall goes up. I did this on the recommendation of my builder and it has become very useful in locating or verifying the location of studs behind the sheetrock. You'll of course need this info when mounting your flat screen tvs, paintings, garage organizers, decor etc.. I purchased a stud finder for this purpose, but its often not accurate. It doesn't always detect the precise location of a live wire (don't want to nail through that) or sometimes what appears to be a large board is actually two 2x4s in close proximity, but with a gap in between. A photo of the actual layout will clarify all this.
I went through each room in my under construction home and took at least 4 shots: east, west, north, south wall etc. Use your digital camera's highest resolution and the flash since your lighting will probably not yet be in place. I've been referencing them for years whenever something goes up on a wall.
