Wow! No offense, but if an inspection didn't investigate why the windows were down any further, they were pretty gullible. Having functioning windows isn't a requirement for a passed inspection. Put the windows down, pull the fuse and don't worry about it

First thing to check if you get a check engine light is your gas cap, make sure it's on tightly. Loose gas cap will cause the light to turn on.
