For vacation, I'd stay downtown or maybe out toward La Cantera, personally. There are both cheap and fancy accommodations to be found in both areas, relatively... They're both safe as well. The east side is probably THE worst part of the entire metro area, by the way...

Thank you so much for telling me. I'm gonna possibly stay near the airport or somewhere in West San Antonio.

Be careful with “west” SA as well. The area immediately west of downtown id probably equally as bad as the area you started with. Avoid most things in the 68207 and 78237 zip codes. The airport will be your best option.

Is the 78201 zip code a safe area? I booked a hotel by a Walmart and an I-Hop.

That area is fine. It's at 10 and 410 near Crossroads/Wonderland mall. Probably Vance Jackson and 10? Not the most touristic or scenic area, but good access to the city and lots of shopping/restaurants nearby.

First time we visited SA, we stayed at Residence Inn in Alamo Heights and it felt very safe in the area.
