Didn't realize there was a difference. I know one of my friends got a ticket in MI because there was something hanging from her mirror. That's the only thing I have ever heard!

you never drove the Ohio Turnpike? Last time I was on it they had cops hiding behind the raised hoods of fake disabled cars. We used to always visit Toledo and it was fun to watch the sea of red lights as soon as we crossed the border. In Michigan it's pretty much anything goes as far as speed (within reason of course), but in Ohio they would get you for anything.
or at least that's how it was in the 80's

When I was in my first few years of driving, the Ohio Highway Patrol enabled me to make a few contributions to the general fund of local governments there. They do a fine job of making sure the speed limits are followed in Ohio.

Having lived in other states for many years since then, I can appreciate how much more of that particular duty the Ohio Highway Patrol does than their counterparts in other states.

you could write speeches for the State Department Bowie.. I can see how you were picked for Mod, although your title looks almost Cyrillic at first glance. I thought I was going to get a chance to test my rusty Cyrillic reading skills

Ok, I must admit, they are pretty strict when it comes to speed. It's for the better sometimes too. When you see an Ohio Staty, then you best put that break on or you WILL get a nice large ticket. When I moved here, I noticed a VAST difference with the police not getting so many people for speed.

you could also write speeches for the State Department mojo

for those that have never been there, they are ruthless and probably generate at least 50% of the income for the state government. They would probably get you for a fraction of a mile over if their radar was that accurate. I have even heard they have credit card machines in their car so you can pay the fine on the spot. I did a Google search on that and couldn't find it, so that might not be true. However, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was true.

I just wanted to make it clear that I recognize they were right and I was going too fast. Far be it from me to tell an LEO how to do his/her job.

I took a Russian History class in college and had to learn the Russian alphabet. Once you know the alphabet, it's amazing how many Russian words you can figure out. I've lost a good chunk of that knowledge myself, but it's still fun to try to decipher signs in Cold War spy films... like the one that reads PECTOPAH.

Speaking of restaurants written in Cyrillic..

Me near the summit of Jaharina (outside Sarajevo where they did the skiing portion of the 84 Olympics) standing beside a sign for the retired policeman's restaurant, pizzeria, and grill. Only one of those is an actual Serbo-Croatian word believe it or not. This was on November 20th 2005 and I was in Heaven and glad I had a 4X4 with a diesel and new tires..
