I think I have finally found a concrete contractor!!! But before I begin giving him all my money, I'd like to check him out on the BBB. How do I do this? I went to the website but I wasn't sure where to go after that.
Thanks!

I've been told many times that even a stellar rating by the BBB means absolutley nothing. I'd ask for some references. Go and see some of his work. Is he bonded?

that is VERY true, back in california we used a roofer that was a member of the BBB no complaints etc, i checked his licence and hired him... took forever to get work done... you could never get a hold of him he wouldnt return calls so my advice is yes ask for referrals talk to those who have used them before...i didnt do that...wish i had my work wouldnt have taken 6 months to get a new roof back in cali.

It costs money, but may be money well-spent--angieslist. If he/they have ever ripped someone off, it's probably on there.

Be careful. I got ripped off when rebuilding my home 2 years ago. Consider a performance bond and/or the use of an attorney to over see the deal. One last thing if you provide the name of the contractor I can run his name through a database available to lawyers and law students to see if he has any judgments/liens etc if you would like. It costs me nothing to do that and I would be more than glad to do that for anyone. However, this is no gurantee as to a contractors future performance but it can sometimes help.

One last thing I am not sure the extent of work you need done, but see my posts in the PA forum. Also insist on a lien waiver to be filed with the courts before you start work, especially if this is a large project. In most states if a contractor orders materials on his credit and does not pay for them, the home owner is legally obligated to pay for them. A lien waiver will prevent that.
