It does seem like there is a lot of exchange between the 2 states! I actually have a job opportunity set for a 2 year minimum and my husband and I think it’s a good move. Let me tell ya, the cost of living here in Denver is getting higher and higher. I love the state, but the move to Texas is a great opportunity for us.

If it is any help at all, we used to live near 1000 Oaks/Jones Maltsberger very close to McAllister Park, and my children absolutely loved it. 2 playgrounds there at different ends of the park, bike trails, soccer field, etc. Nearby elementary schools are 1000 Oaks Elementary, Redland Oaks and Coker, and both are good. There is a summer community pool in one of the neighborhoods there where swim lessons are offered and a big competitive pool down Jones Maltsberger, if you are going away from McAllister Park. I think you will like this area and may decide to stay around there. Close to shopping and at least three libraries. You may like this area to rent, but if I were to buy right now, I would probably move up to Stone Oak.

I actually bought in this area and added a pool. Our house has gone $135,000 over three years. This area has become a lot more expensive as homes in the nicest areas seem to be few and far between.

To the OP everything that poster said is 100% true of the area. What they did not mention is this location is amazing. I can be downtown in 15 minutes, Stone Oak in 5-10, and the La Cantera shopping and entertainment area in 15-20.

You are right, it is close to everything.
It has been a few years since we moved and I don't know what the middle and high schools are like there now. Elementary schools I mentioned used to be rated 8-9 and now they are 6-7 according to greatschools website. School ratings are always based on test results, and that may or may not be indicative of teaching at the school. It may or may not be indicative of attitudes towards education at home. Sometime changing school ratings indicate the area dynamics and population change, and sometimes they don't. So this is why I would probably consider Stone Oak for purchasing a home now (schools there are rated 9s), but traffic going that way has always been an issue. But since you are planning to rent for a while and may only have 2-3 yrs of elementary school for your older children the area I mentioned may be worth looking into. It is one of the best ones in San Antonio indeed, unless you want to move very far out or move closer in to the Alamo Heights district.
NW Military/Huebner are also good areas.
