Need to replace our water softener. REALLY would like to use a non-salt type of system, but not sure it would work well in this very hard water environment.

Any recommendations on systems? Current one is 10 yrs old, so time to get a new one. This once came with the house, so not one we bought, but interested in any feedback what to look for and what to steer clear of.

Just 2 of us in the house, very conservative water usage...we average less than 4K gal per month.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Friend,

Lots of topics on this subject. I found the thread below which is from the "House" forum. I remember when I was looking into them I found Trapper L (San Antonio forum poster) a really great source to ask, as he is an expert in this area, IIRC based on conversations about this product.

I don't know a way to get this address into this post, so I copied and pasted. Hope you can get to it.

Paka - #1, depending on the make of your softener, it may be able to be repaired. I'll message you my email info shortly - send or text me a picture of it, and I can tell you whether it's worth trying. Most aren't made to be repaired, but I've got some out there that are 40 years old (or more).

#2 - NONE of the non-sale units work as advertised. There are some that kinda work - but WHEN they fail, the material you have to replace is ridiculously expensive.....and they really aren't that effective. I've tried them, and can't justify putting my name on it.

Let me know what's going on with the current one - later!
