I looked at Google maps and did a search for historical anything at that address and find no record. Where is the marker located? Was the marker local, state or federal?

^^^^ OP said "historical house".

8706 Mission Road San antonio TX is a home to Mission Road Ministries serving more than 790 children and adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities each day with residential, day services and vocational programs.
The five campus cottages appear to be fairly new.

That term didn't escape me either. I ran a search about that as well. You'd figure that if it was a historical house it would be mentioned somewhere. It was not.

It says “ The Votaw-James homestead, Mission Road’s Administration Building, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.” But didn’t find any other information

The property has an old home on it that was preserved, after a fire in 1984, and it was eligible for the National Register:

She could be speaking of this one. It's right next to the Mission Road Ministires property and is clearly seen from Mission Rd. The 2 story home is barely visible from Mission Rd. The McGown house built in 1894. It was once a doctors office. Dr. Moody's Sanitarium. It was moved from behind the Doseum. It's been undergoing renovations for the last 2 or 3 years. It was at the corner of Brackenridge and Tendick. Built by J. Riely Gordon. I've taken tons of photos of it last few years. It arrived topless and has had additions and improvements made. The house made the front page of the Light in 1928 when the wife of wealthy Victoria rancher Ripley Terrell was living there and Ripley was killed by a gunshot to the abdomen... That's about all I recall from memory.

I missed this post. I think this place was more of an orphanage during the 60's and 70's. I'd forgotten that old house was back there because they've built so much out in front of it. The house I mentioned in my other post is likely of as much or more historical significance.
