My husband will be reporting to work at the Brooke Army Medical Center in August but he has not yet received order (just an email letting him know that's where he's going). Can anyone tell me about their experience living on base in San An? We have a 3 1/2 month old daughter, would we better off finding a place off base? If so, could you sugguest a nice, safe area to rent/buy. How's the commute from Cilobo to/from BAMC, any traffic?

We like newer neighborhood with new construction, but also like mature tree that provides shades, is there such thing exist in San An?

I might/might not continue in the work force once we move there (I just get back from my maternity leave) just currious to know what are some of the engineering firms & mostly where are they located? (FYI - I'm electrical engineer). I did a quick search on monster but doesn't seem to have many return.

Any info you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Hi, we came down from your area a few monts ago. Depending on if you are wanting to buy and your time of arrival Gehan homes has just begun building here and they are retaining 30% of the natural trees. They have built a few spec homes, however if you build to order you would be looking at a 6month wait. They are very nice and come with good upgrades plus options on top of that. The commute to BAMC depends on time of day.

Commuting to BAMC will suck...here is why..

The railroad bridge on highway 78 near binzengelman...will close 78 for the rest of the year.

IH35 from BAMC up to 1604 going both directions is probably the worst traffic in the city.

What is your price range for rent or buying?

I think Bandera(Hwy 16) @ 410, Med center area and All the new devlopment in Far West S.A. has the worst traffic.

Brooks is on the South east side. This is a good area with small pockets of ghetto like areas but For commute it would be the best area to move. This area is less developed then other areas of town and can be a little country at times. I don't know of any electrical engineer jobs around here. Most people would tell you the northside is the best place to live cause of the good schools and safer areas, but the commute would be crazy.
so the best bet is the southeast side since your husband will be working there.

Umm Brooke Army Medical Center, is on Ft. Sam, I would look at new construction in Windcrest, or Royal Ridge, both really safe areas, that are much closer than Cibolo.

How long of a commute would you say from Cibolo to BAMC during rush hours??

You're talking about Brooks City Base, which is different from Brook Army Medical Center (BAMC), which is a bit more north, off I-35.

That said,t here are new developments on the south and east sides, and would be a very easy commute to BAMC, much easier than from anywhere on the north.
