Does anyone here know who sells fresh passion fruit? We have been buying it from HEB Alon for awhile but they kept raising the prices to 6.99 for EACH one.

Looking for other options locally at a better price.

Edit: I am not looking for passion fruit juice. The actual fruit.

I think it's one of those produce items that has to take a long plane ride to get to SA. You're paying for its plane ticket.

Have you tried Central Market? They have a bunch of exotic fruit that I don't even pretend to recognize.

I tried Central Market once about a month ago and they were completely out, plus I can't imagine them being any cheaper than Alon HEB.

As Bo mentioned, I guess the cost of the ride from the tropics to HEB has increased, therefore the price of the fruit has gone up as well.

Thank you everyone.

If you are talking about passion fruit from passiflora incarnata (also known as passion vine, passionflower or Maypop) there is a purple-bloomed variety that is native to Texas - actually the bloom can vary from very light purple (almost white) to pink to purple.

They're pretty common around San Antonio gardens if you keep your eye out for them. I often find them "volunteering" in my flower beds, and I let some of them grow. They are perennial so they come back every year. They produce beautiful red fruit which I've never tried but the birds feast on them as soon as they appear.

Maybe you can grow your own!

You may also want to try some farmers markets? Maybe you can get a list of vendors and e-mail them to see if they have any?

That is interesting. I was unaware that they grow in the wild here in Texas. We are adding some plants to our garden this year already but we ordered the seedlings online.
