With 4 kids in 2 different school, it gets kinda crazy.
No, he's in elementary, getting ready to be a middle schooler. Hopefully this will be in place and working for his school by August! Between band, his clubs, homework, and our lives, lunch money sometimes gets forgotten about! They always let him eat--he can charge and he lets me know right away. I guess they figure Mom should have this all figured out by 6th grade.

Heh! Well, I tell ya what, I'm definitely more vigilant in making sure that my middle schoolers have money, since I know they'd go hungry, so I'm sure you'll end up the same way. My daughter cut it really close the other day (had like a quarter in her account), and I made sure that I got there in time to give her money. She was already in the cafeteria, sittin' in the back with the rest of the kids that didn't have money and weren't gonna eat. Heartstrings pulled!!!

Ya know, they should have a little "check here if you want $3 to go to the lunch fund" box when we pay our humongous property tax bills, so the kids can eat while we are busy makin' the benjamins to pay our property tax bills.

OMG!! I can't believe that! They actually don't let them eat!!??? That is just crazy. I just double checked with my daughter who is in middle school (not NISD or NEISD) and she said that yes they can charge but if they have any charges or library fees they can't go to the school dances or functions.

I think that the kids should at least get a pb&j sandwich
That really pi***s me off
sorry about the rant.

I know, I get really emotional about it. But at the same point, I can almost understand it. Sounds like the "charging" is a perpetual cycle of the same kids whose lame parents can't seem to "remember" to send lunch money. I jis feel bad for the kids....... When I went up there the other day, one of my daughter's friends was like, "Oh yeah, I'm just having a Hall's (cough drop) today." I told her to let my daughter buy her lunch and she was like, "nah, it's ok". Hard for a mom to walk away from that.

NEISD will give them more than that...I have several kids in my class who regularly have negative balances approaching $10. I'm not sure what the cutoff is for charging. I do know that they can only get a tray, nothing extra.

Even in middle school? I know that's what the our elementary school does when a student has charged too much (and my 2nd grader's teacher keeps a jar full of money, just in case one of her students has this happen ~ cause it makes her sad even with the PB sandwich).

When my son went to Harmony Hills, they always sent out the newsletters that stated the children would only be given a PB sandwich. They were not allowed to charge.
