The checkout girl tried to scam me at Walmart this morning. I bought 9 items and when I checked my receipt I was overcharged more than $2 on one item but it was for a different item.

The item was Great Value Dijon Mustard and the receipt just said Sam's Best. She told me to take it up with the customer service so I went there and got in line.

At the counter the girl said where's the item after looking at the receipt. I handed her the mustard and she said that's not the item on the receipt. I said no chit Sherlock and put the rest of the items on the counter. Tally them yourself and you'll find the odd item out.

The mustard is $1.64 and the you charged me $3.74 for a different item. The checkout girl scanned a different item when I was not looking so she can pocket the change. I know about your ficking racket because I was screwed for over $5 a few years ago. I leaned about your racket on the internet so give me back my ficking money.

I was really mad and the girl knows it. She gave me back my money.

So there it is guys, if you shop at Walmart check your receipt and make sure they tally. They've been robbing us blind for years.

So the checkout person keeps a jar of expensive mustard at the cash register, scans it instead of the cheap mustard that customers intend to buy, and then keeps the difference? Wow, that's a pretty elaborate scam. There's no chance it was an error in programming the bar code on the jar?

No it's not. After I checked the receipt I went back and had her to scan the mustard again. It came up $1.64. That made me suspicious as hell and she made it worse by grabbing a used cleaning bottle and scanned it.

It caused an error with the machine so she "fixed" it. Yeah right.

Scam or not - the cashier isn't going to pocket the difference. I do believe it was some sort of a computer glitch.
Cashiers at such stores need to scan items fast to meet the minimum number of items per minute for efficiency. They don't have time for elaborate scams.

This doesn't make any sense.
The only way a checkout cashier could scam customers out of their money is giving them back wrong change.
Remember there are cameras everywhere. A cheating cashier would be prosecuted and let go very fast.

The line wasn't busy as it was early in the morning. Don't tell me it's a glitch. That's wishful thinking.

A lot of people must buy the cheap mustard for this to be profitable for her.

Must be some glitch rather than a plot. At HEB, the self-checkout machine decided a cucumber was an $11 salad. I called over the young man to correct it.

Versus your far-fetched thinking that somehow the clerk would pocket some money? How? The computer scanned a certain amount, that's how it got on your receipt, and at the end of the day, the money she's collected has to match the computer. She has no way to pocket any money.

So she didn't scam you.

And if the computer had the wrong bar code on a product, it's more likely an accident than deliberate. Walmart runs those numbers daily, it's how the buyers know to order more product. If the computer is telling them they are running low on high-end mustard, but the stores are telling them they have lots of high-end mustard, but are running low on cheap mustard, then the buyers check the inventory lists to find the glitch. Because Walmart has to pay its suppliers, and their margin is very thin.

Cashiers at convenience stores could scam you that way, but not at Walmart. They're too busy and don't have the right setup for that kind of thing. There's no way they could get the money if the item rang up higher and you paid and they cashed out the transaction. The money would go into the amount the cashier was supposed to have in her drawer.

Why don't you use the self checkout when you go? That way if something rings up wrong, you'll know no one is trying to scam you.

Guys you need to read my posts carefully. After I got my receipt I had her scan the mustard again and it came up $1.64. On the receipt the item is $3.74 and the name is Sam's Best. nothing else, just Sam's Best.

The mustard is Great Value Dijon mustard. The rest of my groceries matched their names and prices on the receipt.

Now why would she suddenly grab the used spray cleaner bottle and scanned it? It caused an error with the machine and then she proceeded to "clear" it.

Now what label is on that bottle? How do you know it's not a racket? Glitch my foot.
