Just a quick question out there for those firearms enthusiasts that live in or near the NW side of San Antonio. Does anyone know of good ranges to shoot at that doesn't cost a fortune? I don't need a fancy indoor range, just something outside with some space so that I can shoot pistol, rifle, long range, and shotgun. Also is there any public land nearby that someone can just drive out to and shoot like state or federal land? Thanks!

Try The Bullethole over off of Hwy 90, just west of 1604.

If you live close to the Northwest side of town, go to The Bandera Gun Club in Bandera,Tx. It costs $15.00 a day. They don't care if you're there 30 minutes or all day. They don't care if you bring a dozen different guns. If you reload, you can pick up your brass. They have about 10 pistol stations at 25 yds, 50 yd range, and several stations at 100 yds. They have a skeet range too with several stations. It's not regulated like you'll find the ranges in SA where more than one gun costs more or they charge you by the hour or you can't pickup your brass. It's in the country and they expect for you to behave like an adult. Those that don't won't be back. If you try it and like it, they have memberships for a year at $75.00. You'll find they have competition shooting of all kinds on weekends if you like competing against a friendly bunch of ranchers and LEOs.

I went to "A Place to Shoot" last month. Expensive but I wasn't paying.

Modern indoor - Nardis, Mission Ridge. Outdoor - Cedar Ridge, Bullet Hole, Black Hawk, Dietz

Outdoor ranges can be pretty primitive and some are sketchy in clientele. Bandera is a drive but very nice. No Federal or State land.

Google them. Also, look like Krtraining.com for a larger area FAQ in central TX.

I only shoot at outdoor ranges because indoor ranges irritate my asthma. Bullethole is the closest range for me. It's ok but I don't take my kids there. A Place to Shoot isn't great, the carpet dividers make the brass fly back at you. One of my friends had the cable snap and nearly take out his eye there. Bracket is okay but it's always really hot and when it's busy, it doesn't feel safe. Cedar Ridge is nice with great views but it's far and the owner gives you a quiz before you can shoot. I was ok with that but some people probably wouldn't be.

Cedar Ridge is great on weekdays. Have the place to yourself. Closed when wet weather has happened.
