Most of the restaurants in Southtown are closed on Sunday (nights), but I don't think that has anything to do with keeping the day holy and more of a business practice that evening diners are not as frequent on Sunday nights.

bummer for us, as we're often looking for something on Sunday nights.

In England groceries stores closed at 6:30pm Mon-Sat and all day on Sundays. It could be a bloody pain, but I got used to it - it helped that it was easy enough to ride by the store on my way home from work to pick up a few things on a regular basis, because the stores were individual and small. It didn't take 20 minutes just to get milk (well, we had milk delivered)....

In Switzerland it's the same way, but I've always been there on holiday so the timing has never been a huge problem since I was off during the day.

And oddly enough, in both places it's common for both spouses to work. I often ask my DH how they manage...but he prefers the closure on SUndays. I remind him that when we go to HEB on Sunday.

I aways get the bug to go to Hobby Lobby on Sundays and then I remember that they are not open.

blue laws suck.. I completely don't want a church trying to tell me when I can shop.

However, if it's the owners personal preference (like Hobby Lobby and Chik-Fil-A) that's their own personal business. definitely keep the church out of it though.. I'm sure that'll go over real well in this town, but oh well..

I believe with Hobby Lobby and Chick-Fil-A it is a church thing, and they emphasize spending time with family also. But with the little mom and pop places, I think they just need a day off--after working 7 days a week for umpteen years, they've probably just decided they need one day to recuperate--and Sundays may be their slowest day.

With those two it is the owners choice and I respect that because this country allows for freedom of choice..

I'm talking about the liquor laws and how a car/motorcycle dealership can only be open one day during the weekend. It should be the owners decision, not the states, especially when the state law is based on something not everyone believes in. Luckily it's still legal to choose whether or not to believe in that book though..

Vehicle dealerships have to close on a Saturday or Sunday? I did not know that! Why is that?
