True. Luckily I have retired Army ID and a passport so I can wait on a new license.

GE is worth it if you're a frequent traveler.

They're also on a backlog due to funds being cut from Homeland Security.

GE is awesome. Your whole family gets TSA Pre if only one person has it.

True, but everyone needs their own GE membership to use the expedited lane when arriving at CBP back in the States.

Yes, I'm just talking domestic travel.

GE is great but the whole family is not guaranteed to get TSA PreCheck if only one person gets it. The key seems to be if all the family members are on the same Passenger Name Record. If separate tickets then PreCheck would be totally random.

Someone posted on my Nextdoor App that they upgraded (not renewed) their Texas DL to one with a gold star, at a cost of $10. They said they did it online.

If you are needing a Real ID for travel purposes, but your DL isn't expiring, then that's probably the way to go. But there has been discussion of possibly pushing out the October 2020 deadline, so if you want to save $10, you may want to wait a while.

My wife just got a letter from Texas DMV saying she couldn’t renew her DL yet but if she wanted a new DL with the gold star she could get one for a fee. Letter said it had to be done in person not on line.

Apparently, not all upgrades are eligible for online processing.

We talked about paying the $10 and the hassle of having to go to the DMV. She has a DoD ID with the backup of a passport and Global Entry card she has more than enough qualifying IDs so she isn’t going to bother. Her present DL expires in 2022 so no big deal or push right now.
