anyone who is engaged with this mass hysteria to find out exactly what they are afraid of or why they are buying up ****loads of TP, meat, and all other items that will probably end up spoiling by the time they get around to eating or using them.

Just about everything now has a "Use By" date, so I imagine these same people will be throwing away all unused, unopened containers of anti-bacterial wipes, closed, never used or opened food items, and the like.

Will the Food Bank take these past expiration date items that are unopened or will they all end up in our landfills? If not, what a waste of time, money and landfill space. Hello, Environmentalists.....

Meat can be frozen. So can fresh fruit and vegetables.

My house has 6 mouths to feed...we prefer fresh food but try to keep the freezer stocked full of meats, frozen veggies and prepared meals with cupboards full of canned goods, pastas and rice. For water, we keep about 10 of those self fill 5 gallon jugs in the garage and a couple of propane tanks on hand. I also try to never have less than half a tank of gasoline in my vehicles.

Thankfully we didn't need to rush out and restock, I am not justifying people buying in a panic BUT there is a good reason to always have plenty of food and supplies on hand if you are a big family because catastrophe could strike at any moment and supply chains could be interrupted to your local area.

In the case of this pandemic, even Italy, who is on lock down, has open pharmacies and markets so I don't see the US having some sort of food/supply shortage even if this sickness starts to effect many.

Here in Ohio, we're a few days ahead of you on closings and cases. There have been multiple stories in our local media about this phenomenon, mostly consisting of interviews with psychologists. The bottom line is that the reason for the hoarding is primal. Peopls sense dangerous times ahead and instinct kicks in to stock up on stuff. The reason they choose the items they do seems to be copycat-related. They see someone else buying a load of TP and they think they need those things, too.

Here's a similar story.

The Food Bank will accept and distribute canned goods that are six months or less out of date.

I don't want interviews with them.

You know they'll just be idiots who speak in double-negatives and broken sentences.

Enough of that on TV already.
