After battling a serious case of Covid myself, I won't be having 10 of my friends over OR going to a theater anytime soon. I'll wait til if comes out on Netflix.

We really enjoy going to the theater - but yeah, with the Covid issue, we're not going until at least next year some time. We generally eschew the "message" flicks - we're going for entertainment, NOT lectures. I can't even imagine what's happening in the "entertainment" industry (nor, to put a point on it, do I really care). The bloated salaries paid to many because they're a "name draw" is crazy. I'm more concerned for the rank and file workers - while some are well-compensated, many are barely paid minimum wage. And the concert venues aren't faring any better.

It may “still stand”, but it hasn’t shown any movies since 2003.

Default Too bad,

Yes , going out to a drive in movie is become passe'. I am not one to speak out for Drive -in movie theaters because I haven't been to one since probably before 2003. I do not know of any drive in movie theaters that are open around these parts.
Maybe part of the problem is that the audio in drive-ins was so terribly bad. The picture was OK but half of a movie experience is the audio. With nothing but one tiny little speaker which sounded pretty bad, it is no wonder a drive-in could not compete with an indoor theater with their surround sound and high tech sound systems.
I remember having to start the car to defog the windshield every once in a while so as to be able see the movie screen in the wintertime.
Drive-ins were also educational in a way.

I believe that drive-in theaters eventually went to broadcasting the sound on an FM frequency that you tune to on your car radio. It's not Dolby surround but it's way better than the crappy speaker they had.

Yep, and Gawd forbid you parked at a space that had a speaker that didn’t work where there were no others left.

I can see drive in theaters making a comeback. A lot of business models will have to change and/or adapt to a post Covid world.
