I am a darker skinned Hispanic, I've had this discussion with other darker minorities such as myself about perceived racism and I am of the camp that feels we make this racism up ourselves. It's real easy to fall into the trap of blaming other people's inconsiderateness on racism, especially when American media and the US President appear to be pushing for this divisiveness in recent years. You can be genuine about the feeling too and really feel you are being discriminated based on your race/ethnicity, but you could also be completely wrong. Sometimes other people are just rude .

I will say, as a kid I don't remember much racism in the 80-90's SA school system, but kids really did "click up" based on income levels. This goes on in different societies around the world. Higher income levels did and still skew white because of past injustices, but I believe with hard work and a few generations more and this will change.

It is interesting that the article posted in the OP are of people claiming they are discriminated against (labeled) and ironically just in this post on city data, the OP and some others are labeling and name calling.

I've gone door to door in Alamo heights and I've also often shopped at an Alamo Heights HEB. While I have not experienced racism in a school like some are claiming to have experienced and I do not live in the Alamo heights, in my opinion there is a general attitude of elitism there. If these people are claiming to have experienced racial slurs from cheerleaders or from someone else, who am I or anyone on this forum to question that and / or diminish these people's experiences. And yet, this is exactly what some of these posts on here or doing.

The racial equality movement is a good thing. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights"

While all men (and) women are created equal all are not treated equal. Anyone who turns a blind eye to the fact that racism exists in this country for all races (whites included), was either born yesterday or is purposely burying their head in the sand.

Any movement that brings about more equality and a better, more fair, more educated, more enlightened, more aware, more compassionate and more equal society is absolutely a good thing. We are seeing change now with things that were long overdue. Unfortunately, as is evident in this post, we have some people who will deny there is a problem and also name call and label people who they have not even met. This thread is a perfect example that we still have more work to do. We can do better. I know this.

I mean if I were an administrator there I certainly would want to listen to their concerns and figure out how we can do better. Unless they´re lying, their experiences and why they are drawing attention to them are completely valid.

I find it interesting how the many in the majority "decided" what the minority can and can´t be offended by. You don´t get to make that call.

I didn't get your attention? No skin off my nose as I wasn't really aiming for it.

For someone to criticize me about what I called those two based off the article I read, you spend a lot of time labeling people greedy when you never met them based on how much they make.

But what if you don't identify as "men"

Kidding aside, you make some really good points and I agree with most of them except the "Any movement" part. I feel self control and responsibility is also much in need these days especially with youth. Many times people get themselves into trouble on their own and find it very convenient to blame racism.

Once again we find ourselves in agreement ashbeeigh. Getting things like hair texture or religions out into the open air may be painful but good. Bullsfan is right this will degenerate into a verbal slugfest. To the chants of "build that wall or lock her up". Soon the thread will be closed. Somebody always has to post in a disagreeable manner , because it is the best they can muster.
On the other hand the African American outrighteous indignation factor has gone too far in our country.
Is everybody; going to believe we can exchange tossed bricks for rights? As though civil unrest and a disregard for norms and mores will prevail against the U.S. army? Rock throwing is for the stone age.
The same thing applies to hate groups. These people are also going to unseat the U.S. military?
These are like .02% of the country's population.
Attitudes and societal changes move along very slowly. People cannot change immediately.
Attitudes an exclusionary traits of behavior are the fruit of passing along lowly ignorance for generation after generation after generation and this family inheritance cannot be obliterated by throwing bricks. I am sorry.- I have read.

Tens of thousands of years from now into the future when we are all gone into dust - it is theorized by evolutionary science- when due to the technological advancement of geographic mobility , the ease of travel when combined with evolution will cause a human change in appearance. Humans will cause their own evolution with technology. Moving about the earth will be as easy as hopping into an auto is for us right now. It is believed by science that human appearance will change, generally speaking, morph into a sort of Asian appearance from this.. All will display the trait of the epicanthic eye fold.
Everybody. Unless you do not believe in evolution and then your progeny will not evolve.
Because the statistical law of averages will prevail and because there is a larger Asian population than any other sub-group on earth so all will display some trait of being Asian. Eventually. The earth will become a bit of a gigantic mixing bowl for humans, and human beings- being what we all are, will be opportunistic.
Science theorizes these advancements and changes. We will evolve along these lines. Undoubtedly some single exlcusionary trait will be found by people at that time and the cycle will repeat. Ignorance may prevail far into the future. If we last that long.

One of the negatives about this town that I saw on here was the greed among the districts and the willingness to segregate certain groups from there zones....can't wait to move out of here...very soon hopefully

Let us know when you find that perfect place where whites don't discriminate or non-whites don't discriminate either. You know...where racism doesn't exist at all

I think the Administration did listen. What is concerning was that their grievances did not come to light until after the two had graduated- a little late to correct a wrong.

All of the cafeteria workers are black or mexican at Alamo Heights. I can't imagine things have changed in the 4 years since I've been there.
Anyways...
Is Alamo Heights racist? Maybe so.
Is it the best public school in the city? Yes. By far.
If you want your kids to go to the best school, you may have to deal with those things, unfortunately.
What people might not realise is that these kids aren't necessarily racist, they are just elitists. They dislike poor white and poor black people the same. It is what it is.
