Kens 5 - San Antonio police admit they arrested the wrong man, yet he still sits in jail
https://www.kens5.com/article/news/l...5-7ef49fa686a1

"Even after the victim told police Mathias Ometu wasn't the man who assaulted her, they took him into custody on two felony charges."

"Family and witnesses are asking San Antonio police for answers tonight after a man was thrown in a police car and taken to jail. He was suspected of committing a crime and hauled off even after officers determined they had the wrong guy."

- End article excerpts

The incident was recorded to cell phone and Facebook Live by Victor Maas (a San Antonio attorney) and his girlfriend Jennifer Rodriguez and is included in the linked Kens 5 article

Show your Id when a peace officer requests it. (You know a simple task that we were all taught.)

The facts will come out like they always do and we will see if SAPD screwed this up or something else happened. From where I sit and the facts we know the guy was being arse and officers responded in kind albeit non-professionally. If this remains the case the officers will face disciplinary action and maybe a firing.

The question is will the idiots at MySa report the whole story once it is found out or will it be another Kenosha story?

I realize Ometu may not have been legally obligated to identify himself, but he chooses not to cooperate. Worse, he then resists arrest & struggles with officers.

Not sure whether the officers acted appropriately or not, but I can't help but wonder if Ometu could have helped clear things up and been on his way moments after being stopped, if he had chosen to cooperate and identify himself?

He probably would have still been taken in, because systemic racism and internal biases. No matter what he did he was screwed.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Too little facts are known at this point. Given that we are living in a very difficult time nationally, with tensions high and people on edge, it only takes a small spark for social unrest. Hopefully San Antonians can remain calm and let the facts come out

Interesting to note that it appeared from the video that one of the arresting officers was also black.

This is such a ridiculous opinion.

This man has a constitutional right to privacy and not only does he have no obligation to identify himself, he has no obligation to help the police with their investigation.

Blindly following the orders of police officers, who are quick to violate your rights and break the law themselves, is NOT the way to respond to the tyrannical way police act these days. Enough of this BS, 'if he just would have complied'. Why don't we start holding the police accountable when they break the law?

The race of the man arrested is irrelevant. The illegal actions of these police officers should be the primary concern. Nice to see the police chief is already running around to every news source in town, proclaiming that his thugs did nothing wrong when the video tells a completely different story.

There is a big difference between driving a car and walking down the street with regard to your rights when it comes to identifying yourself to police.

The problem with applying that 'comply then complain' mentality is, NOTHING is ever going to happen when you complain about the police. NOTHING. EVER. They are always going to get the benefit of the doubt even when they are almost always the ones actually violating the law.

This whole idea of 'comply and you won't die' is exactly the reason we are continuing to move more toward a police state every day.
