Any thoughts, opinions, advice? Any alma mater onboard around here?
We're most likely ending up in NB and our kids are 12 and 14 so any info about the 2 schools would be most appreciated. The house(s) we're looking at are in the NB High zone for the most part, but that could change.
Thanks in advance!
Dave and family.

My understanding is that NB high school is kind of the country, original new Braunfels and Canyon is the more suburban/new New Braunfels school. But, this is coming from someone who graduated high school in 2003 and have several friends, now in their 30s who went to both/either and said the same thing.

Okay, that makes sense. We drove by the Canyon High when we were out a few weeks ago, my gosh it is impressive!
Did you graduate in 2003?

I graduated in 2003 from a San Antonio school that was very far removed from New Braunfels.

NB and Canyon are both good choices and similar. Like ashbeeigh said, NB High(New Braunfels ISD) pulls from the kids who live in the old town areas and northern fringes while Canyon(Comal ISD) gets kids east of the New Braunfels' city limits and formerly pulled kids from parts of Schertz and Garden Ridge right outside of San Antonio. This area now attends the new Davenport HS in Garden Ridge. NB has better athletics as of now and the higher enrollment as a Class 6A school while Canyon just dropped down to 5A. Academics would be a tie in my opinion.

Thank you geo33! And ashbeeigh!
This is great info and exactly what I was looking for.
I agree, academically both schools seem to have high standards and that's most important for us.

New Braunfels test scores appear to be a little bit higher despite the same ranking on greatschools.org

For this reason, New Braunfels would be my pick.

With HS kids, I would pick a place as near a CC or State college, so they could take classes there if they didn't want to dink around with HS. Works great for some, others want to stick with HS. (Usually for social or sports).

Ours did HS education at college and sports at HS.
Saved them a bunch of time and money.
