Help out a newcomer please! What are your top 3 favorite restaurants that are still open? I've been underwhelmed so far with the places I've tried. I'm hoping it's just due to the fact that I've been using the delivery services and maybe it's my part of town. I'm willing to drive for carryout if it's a good place. Thanks in advance!

Ernesto's Mexican Specialites, 2559 Jackson Keller Rd. Ernesto is magical; he can tell you exactly what you want to eat and you'll love it. Teeny little place, does have curbside pickup. Amazing food, reasonable prices.

Koreana Restaurant, 2458 Harry Wurzbach Rd, Ste 5. Authentic Korean foods, reasonably priced.

The Magnolia Pancake Haus, 606 Embassy Oaks. Excellent breakfast foods. Get there early enough to order whatever special they have -- always interesting.

Bon Apetit!

We have done curbside pickup from a few of our favorites and they have all survived so far. The future? Beats me. Local authorities are cutting restaurants back to 50% capacity, which of course is better than totally closed like earlier, and closing bars so it isn’t getting better fast. Have to admit we haven’t had a sit down dinner in a restaurant since March 7.

From 12/31 to 1/3, dine-in service will be limited to 6am-10:30pm. After those hours, take away, drive-thru, and delivery services are the only options for food + beverage. Use curbside, take-out, or delivery when possible.

Walk-ons bistro. Order the biggest size duck gumbo and a blackened shrimp po-boy and that’s about as good as it gets in San Antonio takeout.

Fratellos also does a good pasta takeout.

Did you try the bistro in Seoul Market nearby?
I prefer their food, although since they moved to new location the menu is now much smaller (even before Covid)

What do you order there? I am always intimidated by the menu.

No, I haven't been into San Antonio in at least a month and a half, so no opportunity to try them.

Walk-On’s Bistreaux is one of the first places I tried. It was very good. I had the grilled shrimp wrap. The Krispy Kreme donut bread pudding was interesting. It was way too sweet for me, but for anyone who lives for Krispy Kreme donuts, you'll love the bread pudding.

I'll have to hunt down Fratelos. Thanks!

FWIW, if anyone here likes beef brisket, 225 Urban Smoke has the best beef brisket I've ever had. You won't need a knife and it melts in your mouth. Their red beans & rice are good too and the order is huge - easily enough for two people, especially if you add a green salad. They're on Rittiman Rd and you can get delivery from Doordash and Grubhub. Order early though, they close at 5:30.
