I have also found these groups indispensible! I also find the Yahoo Group forum a real boon of support and information. Go to Yahoo groups and search "autismsocietysa". Parents in this area are really supportive and plugged in. Great networking!

Also...just in case you don't know. City-Data also has a forum dedicated to "Special Needs Children". Parents there are so helpful and are a good source of support and information.

CASE is excellent. Otherwise, good luck finding groups that know what they are doing. I recommend starting one of your own that focuses on best practices using sensory integration activities and Errorless Compliance in social learning opportunities.

You want to reduce anxiety to avoid issues with stress hyperglycemia, the prevalence of which is hugely and inappropriately misdiagnosed as a phantom mental health issue and often medicated with "anti-exotics".

If your child develops manic sleeplessness and has not yet dehydrated, you can induce sleep with melatonin, but beware incontinence!

That has been scientifically disproved.

As a nurse, I must take exception to those that spread this type of information and scare parents of little ones about vaccines. The number of lives saved since they have become available to keep children from contracting these diseases should be considered by every parent wondering the need for compliance.

There are risks involved in everything we do, daily. For each child adversely affected by vaccines (or antibiotics for that matter) there are 1,000's that are alive today because they are available.

Off of my soap box now....
