Hi,

We will be driving to Fredericksburg from the just outside 1604/I-10W. What is the best route to take? We enjoyHill Country scenery, but want to be time efficient on our trip up there.

In Fredericksburg we plan to take our time, enjoy the area and visit the museums. We plan to take a more scenic route for our return to San Antonio.

What are your suggestions for:

A. an efficient trip from I-10W/1604 to Fredericksburg?

B: a scenic trip from Fredericksburg back to I-10W/1604?

Thank you for your suggestions

57 minutes to one hour (3 different, but similar routes) from "The Rim" La Cantera Pkwy, San Antonio, TX 78257

If scenery and history is your objective, do incorporate this tour into your Fredericksburg trip!!

There are so many great roads around the area, Center Point Rd / Hassenwinkel is delightful and pretty close to your route and leads you to Comfort, TX.

Comfort, TX is a nice town to drop by during opening hours for antique shops. (Library and internal bookstore is great too)

Bear Creek rd, Grape Creek rd, Old San Antonio Highway (Cartoon Saloon...) are all very nice (Paved, but narrow, usually very light traffic (and fast, but few motorcycles...))

Enjoy the journey and adventure. Go for the fish fry or Willow City BBQ fund raisers!

If you want scenic routes north and west of Fredericksburg... look me up, I am always out exploring for additional fun routes.

Going up there, take 10 west to Comfort. From Comfort, take Hwy. 87 all the way to Fredericksburg.
For the return trip, I would take the Old San Antonio road off of Hwy. 290, just east of Fredericksburg.
Old San Antonio road used to be old Hwy. 9.
Old Tunnel State Park is about halfway to Comfort along Hwy. 9. It's an old abandoned railroad tunnel that houses several million Mexican free tailed bats. In the evenings, you can watch them emerge from the tunnel like a tornado. Pretty cool to watch. Alamo Springs Cafe is nearby, if you're hungry. Hwy. #9 turns into Hwy. 473, which leads you back to Comfort. Along Hwy. 9, there are several old German style rock homes still being used. Note the rock fences along the way, made when the early settlers cleared the fields of rocks, so they could farm the land.
There are a couple more ways to return from Fredericksburg, but this is one of my favs.

and... since you are into fitness... someday try the Kerrville river trail it is nice, swing by Commanche Trace for sunset at pond or clubhouse). For biking between Kerrrville and Fredericksburg.. try Rocky ridge / Zenner - Ahrens rd. (can drive it too)

Many folks run Enchanted Rock SP... go early in the day if doing so.

Fwiw, Enchanted park reservations were booked through the 22nd last I checked. If OP has plans to head that way they better have an RSVP.
