Yeah, I was suprised that it was a Saturday as well. Actually they should do that more often since more people are off on Saturdays I would assume. Anyway.. I voted during early voting

unfortunately I'm not residing in SA anymore, so I can't vote, but I really hope the venue tax passes! It could help transform downtown in a very positive way for both visitors and residents.

I was surprised when my phone rang about 4:00 with a reminder to vote today. I've never gotten a same-day reminder before.

i've only been here in san antonio for a little over 2 years, but has ANY no taxes proposition ever passed here? i always hear grumbling from some that the voters will not vote for any new tax proposition. that has certainly not been the case since i've been here! san antonians seem to be overjoyed to pass any new tax proposition for schools, roads, parks, etc. has the era of no new taxes ended for san antonio?

Apparently only 20,000 Bexar County residents bothered to vote yesterday. That's barely half of the 37,000 who voted early.

Jaime Castillo's column in today's E-N covers this topic... MySA.com: Metro | State (http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/metro/stories/MYSA051108.1ACastillo0511.3a40399.html - broken link)
Those who were in SA in the 80s and early-mid 90s will certainly remember Kay Turner and C.A. Stubbs virulent anti-tax campaigns that railed against every possible public investment expenditure. There were many issues that came up... the Applewhite Reservoir deal being the only one I can remember off the top of my head. Castillo notes that since the middle of this decade, many more public investment initiatives have passed... possibly due to the large influx of residents from other, more progressive/forward thinking parts of the country. (HIS WORDS, NOT MINE).

While I don't think that every past tax proposal foisted on the people on San Antonio had merit or were wise uses of public funds, I can say without question that I support the investments we're making today and believe we will reap the benefits for many years to come.
