$6.25 plus tips!!! Man, I'm a SAHM, but maybe while little one is in school I should get a job at Sonic for a little extra cash. I would have loved to make that much for that easy of a job back when I was in school.

Please, car exhaust, heat and rain is a reason to tip??? How about because they give good service, have a friendly attitude, go the extra mile? I honestly think people have it too good these days. No one should have to suffer, everyone should be pampered and be appreciated at work. blah blah blah. I'm sorry but I had some jobs when I was in high school or college that were thankless and I dealt with it. I guess I'm sick of people expecting to get pampered plus a tip on top of it. Get over it and just do the job you chose to do!

I think that qualifies as YOU picking up your food, rather than having it brought to you, so I would say no.

They would like health benefits and a 401K to go with that, please.

I used to give a buck for Sonic but that's when I would pay in cash. A debit card is a nice work around but you know that they don't like taking food to the cars that have paid through the system because I have seen it happen where my food just stays on the counter. Now, I just use the drive through they implemented at potranco and 1604. My wife and I went twice to the one on Potranco close to the post office and weren't even addressed on the mic. (yes, we hit the red button). We shall never go back to that one again.

At Sonic, carhops deliver orders placed at the drive-thru, just like they do in the parking stalls. Since the delivery method is the same, you can't use logic to weasel out of tipping that easily.

Do they pass the food to you through a window to which you've driven your car?

I would think they get paid minimum wage at Sonic. It's a fast food place and not a sit-down. I always just give them a buck or two, which considering the price of a meal deal there is way over 15%.

No, you pay through the window and they have you pull ahead next to the sidewalk to wait for the carhop to deliver the order.

Interesting...didn't know that since I've never used the drive-thru at Sonic. In that case, I would tip.

And for the record, I don't weasel out of anything.

I would NOT tip for a drive through... if you're going to tip at Sonic, then you should tip at Taco Cabana, McD's etc... they all make the same amount.
