Lot of articles coming out that the revived XFL is looking to put a football team in San Antonio in 2023. This is after the AAF's Commanders folded, along with the AAF league in 2019, and the XFL, second version, lasted one season in 2020 and shut down when COVID hit.

Will San Antonio support this new team, and will the XFL 3.0 last more than a year this time.

Rumors Swirling That San Antonio Will Join XFL Roster

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The XFL is rising from the ashes and is reportedly eyeing San Antonio as home to a franchise.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch said Friday that Head Football Coach Reggie Barlow resigned from his position at Virginia State University to take the job in San Antonio.

Barlow coached at VSU for six years with an overall record of 34-16. He previously played in the NFL for five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, one season with the Oakland Raiders and two years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (including one Super Bowl win in 2003).

Reggie Barlow Set to Join XFL as Coach of New San Antonio Franchise

It’s been a long road for the XFL from 2020 to their planned 2023 return. Rounding out 2021, co-owner Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson stated that news around new teams/cities along with broadcasting partners would be revealed early in 2022. He then joined the Manningcast in January where he mentioned that the news would be dropping in the next few weeks.

Needless to say, fans have been on edge waiting to hear more about the leagues return.

Earlier today the XFL put out a press release announcing another round of hires, so the wheels are definitely moving in the background.
Then it was reported by Sean Robertson of CBS 6 (WTVR) that Reggie Barlow has resigned from his position at VSU to accept a role with the XFL.

At the time, it did not say what position Barlow would be taking with the new league, but it seems we have some answers.

According to Robertson, Reggie Barlow is headed to the XFL to serve as head coach of their new San Antonio franchise.

XFL has never really taken off, but perhaps the third time is the charm.

Pro football will never be a thing here in the same way that SAT will never be a hub with a multitude of international destinations. We're just too close to larger, more powerful cities that started expansion earlier.

Perhaps this will push the city to start upgrading the very aged AlamoDome.

Who cares about the Alamodome? I can't even remember the last time I step foot in there. It should be demolished, not upgraded.

I've never understood why it was built in the first place. San Antonio was going to be able to get an NFL team, it was too big for basketball, and plan changes from its original design make it unsuitable for baseball. UTSA only recently started playing there and they play only 6 home games a year.

There is no reason why San Antonio shouldn't have a MLB or NFL team imo. If this were to happen I think the logical move would definitely be to renovate the Alamodome to make it suitable.

NFL would never play there - it's too old. That whole Bill of Goods was dreamed up by Henry Cisneros and his cronies to (A) bail out the old Alamo Iron Works, who would have been bankrupted had they had to clean that old site up, and (B) line the pockets of the Henry Faithful while doing over the citizenry.

Anyone else remember the "Bucket of Chicken" that dome was supposed to cost us? The Dome is funded by the Hotel/Motel tax....wonder what else that could have funded had the $$ not been diverted to the fiscal nightmare that the dome has been since it was built.

Even when the Raiders were considering relocating to San Antonio in 2015, the Alamodome would've only been their temporary home until a new stadium was build. The Alamodome is still functional and could have many years of life ahead of it, but American pro sports teams LOVE NEW STADIUMS.

No new stadium, no NFL/XFL team. SA is too cheap to build one. I'm hoping within the next 10 years, they will build a stadium between us and Austin for a joint NFL effort. One can dream, right?
