So, I'm terribly spoiled by the ease in which I can find places to sit, do some work, have a drink/coffee/snack/lunch while using the free wifi they have to offer.

So, i know san antonio wont be as friendly for us self employed folks who need out of the house but what places do you know of that might have this for when i move down (and for the times that I'm there househunting?)

starbucks does not count.

Panera has free wireless, so does Bennigans and EZ's. I think Fatso's has it too...there's a bunch of places around town that have it, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that Main Plaza was supposed to have wi-fi now as part of the renovation.

If you like mexican food, check out Taco Cabana. I've seen people using their laptops while enjoying a brew or food. And that is here in Seguin, so I'm sure they are all over the TC's in SA.

oh, i should probably add that id be there sometimes for a couple of hours. so something comfortable (i dont know if i could comfortably work for 2-4 hours at a time sitting at a metal table at TC)

I'm guessing Candlelight coffee house has wi-fi? something like that would be better than bennigans

Huh? Not sure where you got that notion.

The public libraries offer wifi. (Not sure about their rules for eating/drinking though.) There are other self-employed people on this board and I'm sure they can give you better ideas than me.

Austin is an amazingly connected town. plus, with UT having so many students all over town, there is a coffee shop or cafe with wifi around every corner it seems. I can stand at the capital and can find no less than 6 cafes or coffee shops with wifi within 150 yards.

just a small sample
Austin Wireless City Project (http://www.austinwirelesscity.org/hotspot-list.php - broken link)

I figured there might be more concentration of places around the universities.

definitely not city-wide here and I wish it was. If you're looking for high tech it's best to look elsewhere

trust me. its not like im expecting SA to have what Austin has. I lived in San antonio for 19 years before moving up here so I'm well aware

just wanted to get a feel for whats out there. It honestly may help me narrow down searches of where to buy a house.

well.. with a house it's a lot easier to find someone that doesn't know how to secure their router...
