Our garage is pretty cool, but I'm going to put the insulation on the back of the door just to see if that has any effect. I figure that, for 40 bucks or so, it's worth the investment.

Speaking of garages... how many vents to outside do ya'll have? I have two at floor-level but notice some homes have a third one up near the garage ceiling.

I have two...which is all that would work in my garage the way it sits against the rest of the house. That said - it doesn't seem to be enough since the garage is a 853 square foot three bay garage. But the garage never really gets that hot. Not like my last house which also had two vents for a 380 square foot two stall but the house had no radiant barrier.

I have two vents for my 2 car garage. But it is totally insulated R-13 walls, and R-32 ceilings, R-5 garage door, high velocity fan mounted to ceiling with a timer to turn on at 0600 and off at 10:30pm, and I have with a living space above. It stays below about 85, however it jumps about to 94 when I park my hot car in there during peak afternoon hours. Afternoon sun beats down directly on my garage, however it leaves me with a shaded backyard where I also have a large covered patio.

Funny - with no insullation in my garage my temp has yet to get above 95 in the heat of the day with a hot car...per my in car temp reading.

I think a lot of that depends on which side of the house the garage is on, how many rooms are adjacent to it, trees, whether the neighbor's place shades the exterior wall, ... a whole bunch of stuff. My car says it's still quite warm in there when I start it up in the afternoon but it cools down a couple of degrees after I get down the road a bit.

Someone told me that KB uses this special drywall that no other builder has access to. It basically acts as a thermal-guard resistant barrier with similar properties to insulation. Thus the cooler temps (my guess).

Very funny. I am just stating fact. I do have the radiant barrier and with a large garage have more cubic feet of air to absorb the heat from my car...it has nothing to do with the sheetrock thank you very much...

Actually, I heard that the Quarry at Stone Oak has a special UV filter floating just above it. Filters out harmful UV rays and also has the added benefit of keeping temps down (in garages at least).

In all seriousness, Banker, you'll have to let us know if you see any differences between summer heat and winter cool.
