I just looked at my last bill dated June 6 which would make it Mays bill ( right??) My usage went from around 1760 last year to 2200 this year. My bill was $235.00 (thank goodness for the budget plan) We built our house in 1991 ( still building it ) but this year we have been using the pool more than last year which means the pump is running. We have our own well and the house is all electric. Sure we don't have a water bill but every time the pump on the well comes on it takes electricity and I have been watering more this year than last too. We hold off as long as we can turning the ac on for the season and turn it off as soon as the weather allows. I still have a credit in my cps savings account so it's not to bad yet. I will just trun it off as soon as we can in the fall and hopefully will all balance out. Maybe more time at the lake this year, the trailer is cheaper to cool!!

It would be unfair to compare with last year as it was A LOt cooler at this time.

Mine was not real bad - $120 for a 1900 sf house built in the '40's. We keep the temp at 78 to 80 degrees (it's an old thermostat that isn't the most precise). We are electric/gas, and the a/c was replaced in 1997. We have 29 windows, but they are all insulated, low-e. Insulation is minimal in the walls and ceiling. This was a typical Summer bill. Spring and Fall are much less, but Winter's bills approach $200, unless it is mild.

Now, when my neighbor received her bill it was $200 for a smaller house. Maybe they figured mine wrong (but in my favor).

Monitrob - did you install the low-e windows yourselves?

We considered that, but the best we could get were $800-1000 per window (8ftx3ft), we don't have as many as you, but we've got 15 windows...so we decided to work with what we have an insulate them well. It helps, but the glass is still single pane...

No, but my work pays around $27,000 a month to CPS.

No. They were already installed when we bought the house in the late 1990's. They aren't the best looking (aluminum vs. clad wood), and I have thought about eventually replacing them. I got a quote last year and they were about $1000 a window for the casements. My significant other thought that they weren't that bad looking after all, but I'm still taking donations. I guess I should clarify the 29 window statement - there aren't 29 holes in the wall, just 29 windows (some are ganged together in pairs and triples).

I have noticed that they are most beneficial during the cold winter January and February months - I think we lose more heat through the floor than the windows.

After being released from the hospital (after seeing my latest cps bill ) I was wondering how these rates will continue to go? Is this a summer thing, or a constant thing. My bill was always between $70-$80 and now it had doubled to $130!

Default higher bill here too

Our bill jumped over $50 from last month. I was pretty mad when I saw the increase, so I asked my neighbors, and they all said theirs went up $50-75 as well.

I finally opened mine. Was terrified, since our summer bills are usually in the mid $300's. It was about normal, $331.69. Last month was $249ish, but we used considerably more electricity than last month, too (2,611 kWh vs 1,901). I was surprised that we only used about 220 kWh more than same time last year tho, considering how much hotter it's been this year. Maybe some of my fanatical "turn those lights/that tv/etc off!" and raising the thermostat up to 79 (was at about 75 last summer) has helped. Now I definitely need to continue the fanaticism, since the next 3 months have traditionally been our highest consumption months.
