Where is Perichos? That is my side of town and I've never seen it.

Never mind I found it. It's Pericos, I have eaten there once but it was a while back. From what I remember it was pretty good food.

Thanks for all the recommendations! Too bad I won't have more time, I'd try them all! Maybe after I officially move there I'll have a chance to sample all the places.

I'll be staying near the airport and wandering around the northwest side most. A couple of people said that their recommendations would depend on what part of town I'll be in.

Thanks again!

Pericos( sorry there is a place with the same name with a H in the name in another city) is on the NW side. Mamacitias is on the NW side and La Fogata ain't to far from that area. Those would be my bets on the near NW side.

La Fonda on Main St is one of the older established Tex Mex restauraunts, but it's a little closer into town and may be too far for you. My second choice more toward the NW but inside Lopp410 is La Fogata......killer margaritas!

I haven't personally eaten at Mamacita's but have heard it's good too. Maybe a little too commercial however....but still fun for a trip.

Locals have their neighborhood haunts.....and yes, there are way too many good ones.

I'll give another vote for Jacala. If you can't make it to Jacala, there is very similar food found at these three places...

La Fonda near Loop 410 and Fredericksburg.

The Manhattan downtown overlooking the Riverwalk.

La Palmita, a little hole in the wall restaurant at Blanco and Jackson-Keller.

It's been a while since I've been to SA, but I think both La Fogata and Cha Cha's are excellent. I went to something on McCullough a long time ago that was very good, it must have been Panchito's.

try these tex-mex gems. true tex-mex food and old san antonio atmosphere: zacatecas cafe 210-270-9574(romantic hideaway), fernandez cafe 210-223-8105, just down the street from zacatecas(open since 1947), both on carson st. off broadway. on the riverwalk, try mexican mahattan(great happy hour with great free mini buffet with outside patio looking down on river). and, yes, the old late nite downtown standby, mi-tierra 210-225-1262(i suggest staying away from gringo-mex and order their bean and cheese nachos w/jalepenos and cover them with their hot green sauce, with a carne guisada taco and hot black coffee), and enjoy the three in the morning mariachis, and don't miss the fabulous bakery. enjoy san antonio!
