I like it, but I can't help notice the marketing scheme. They started by promoting no ads. Do you not think those sound bites of apparent people calling in stoned or drunk as hell are ads? They also stopped marketing themselves as having no ads. Now they say something about more music. There have been a couple rare occasions when I have heard an ad or two on 97.7.

All in all, I like their music, but I also like 99.5's early chats. It's a good way to spend time while stuck in traffic. I wouldn't doubt if 97 is just using this marketing investment of no ads for the short run as it prepares to get more fans before it hits it big with the advertising industry.

Then again, I'm always using my car's card reader playing mp3's so I rarely listen to radio all that much ;-)

Mix 96.1 started out with no ads and promoted themselves as playing the most music in SA in direct competition to KTFM at the time. Once the station got "picked up" they had to pay the bills. Ultimately depending on how well 97.7 does, if it gets picked up the ads will definitely start pouring in.

I just heard 'em a couple hours ago promoting some MMA fight at Cowboys Dancehall! Eh, it's good while it lasts.
