I am thinking of relocating to San Antonio from California (Sacramento Area) due to job offer. Has anyone lived in both cities and please offer any advise of the pro's and con's of moving to San Antonio?

Thank you so much!

NF

I've only visited Sacramento, I was born and raised in San Diego, so my opinion is only relative. I recently moved here to San Antonio and if I had to choose between the two (SA or Sac) I'd pick San Antonio. I found Sacramento a bit bland (nothing personal, just my own experience). FWIW, my neighbors in the house behind me are from Sacramento and they love it here too.

Default You'll love it

Ntlfr8,

I recently moved from Sacramento and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how close these two cities are in nature. If you have children you'd love San Antonio as it's very family oriented. It's more suburbia than city but then again so is Sacramento. They're both "river cities" the only difference is the size of the river (Sacramento's is larger) but San Antonio's river is beautifuly carved through it's downtown. The major selling points you'll like is of course the housing. There are no state taxes (property taxes are higher here though). The food here is wonderful. Not as trendy as California cuisine but it seems to be getting there. Great Mexican food!! Even though Sacramento is a stones throw away from Napa, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco etc. unless you frequent those places often you won't be missing very much.

I just moved here from Sacramento. I think the two cities have little in common. Its funny how people see or feel things differently. Sacramento is a government/ agricultural area with a fast pace. It is MUCH slower pace here. Yes I agree with Michelle; Sacto is bland...a bit bland? I sincerely hope that San Antonio does not expand out 50 miles in each direction with Beige look-alike tract homes and every resident of the new "suburban" communities driving on freeways that cannot accomodate the influx of traffic. That is my biggest fear....it is starting to look like Sacramento or Tracy with all the new ticky tacky home communities sprouting up !

I doubt Sac expands 50 miles in each direction, LA doesn't even do that.

I'll save us all the trouble and say, "You're right it's funny how people see things differently". lol
However, in respect to the pace and lifestyle of the bay area (SF etc.) Sacramento is in many respects like San Antonio. There 's more emphasis on suburbs, it's more family oriented. I do agree the housing is a little bland as far as selection but personally in California I prefer older homes. They have more character hardwood etc. The house I own in Sacramento was built in the 40's it's beautiful.
The land base in Sacramento along the river towards the Delta is beautiful. Homes surrounding the river. Wine Vineyards. Country landscapes. The Sacramento area itself is just flat, but I spent more time in Napa, Tahoe, and San Francisco rather than hanging in the burbs (that's what I like to call Sacramento).
I agree with 210 as well. Sacramento doesn't expand and won't be able to expand in every direction for 50 miles due to the surrounding cities of Elk Grove, West Sacramento, Citrus Heights, North Highlands, Antelope, Folsom, Rancho Cordova (I'm sure I'm leaving some of the others out).
