Found the article, though! I am going to start nagging now about this for a chance to go in the fall! I used to love to camp but can't get anyone interested!!

The link is a good start.

Now we just need lower fuel prices to get our gear to the camp sites. I have a full size 4x4 I use to haul in and out not. It's not easy on fuel.

I've camped much of my life. Though I have slowed the frequency quite a bit, I still own all my gear. Being from Oregon we camp in the spring and summer. Here in Texas early spring and late fall look like the best times to me. What is called winter in Texas would pass for decent camping weather where I come from. I dont see a lot of Texas families packing up and going camping. I see hunters usually when I see a vehicle loaded with gear. I did visit a few places this spring and I enjoy the hill country as much as I did Oregon. One tip I can give local San Antonio folks is get off the beaten path. I found the easier and closer something is to town the more trampled and trashed it is. Some people just dont get it.

I think the lower fuel prices are a thing of the past, but that's a different thread altogether.

Camping is a fairly inexpensive way to get away as a family and learn to love the outdoors. We are so spoiled with our A/C and all the amenities.....but the camping experiences I recall from when I was a kid are awesome!! We always had a blast. I would like to share that with my son.
