Only one time did I come to a dead stop on the way to work. It was only because a 18 wheeler was on fire and it took me forever to get to work that day. Normally I leave from the Sea World area at 6:30 and I am at work by 7:15, driving about 30 miles...I think the 635/75 area is much worse. I drive this route twice a day. To and from work and then again to and from soccer in the evenings. Just like anywhere, when there is a bad accident it can be a parking lot but it's not all the time.

With that said there is alot of growth in the area I live at. New homes/subdivisions all the time. Just depends one what kind of a commute you and your family want as well. 1604 Near Sea World. Lots of shopping and restaurants being added as well as schools.

Maybe someone else can give input on areas like Bulverde and/or Spring Branch? I'm still learning the areas around here myself. Just a thought.

We are moving from Stonebridge Ranch and when I went to the sites where you put in how much you make now and what you need to make if you relocate, it said we needed to make more in SA than Dallas.

It wasn't much, I want to say for the year it was only $1000, LOL, but it was more.

Try this comparison chart (from Bankrate.com):

Cost of Living comparison calculator

I'm not endorsing their accuracy as a lot of the SA prices look high; interesting results though.

We just moved here from Dallas a little over two months ago, and for us it is cheaper to live here. The biggest differences are in the cost of groceries, auto insurance and electricity. So for us we not only make more money at our jobs here the lower cost of living has really help put some $$ in the bank!

Oh yeah since you're used to the North Dallas/Plano traffic getting around here isn't bad, it just gets a little frustrating since people here drive about 10 mph slower!

lol- one of my friends who used to live there told me that this week!

good to know I am probably blowing the traffic out of proportion. The homes in the stone oak area look really nice online and I like how convenient everything would be. but in my mind, it was going to take 15 minutes to get to a target 2 miles away...
