We were in San Antonio this weekend, and now have a contract on a darling house in Alta Vista. While we were exploring the neighborhood, we came upon San Pedro Park and the swimming area there. Has anyone been to the pool? Do you have to pay to use it? It looked like a fun place to take my son for a morning swim.

Oh, and I can't wait to be among you all soon! We're very excited about our move next month.

It's free, and I've been several times. It's a little "chaotic" with the hundreds of kids.........but it's still a great amenity for our neighborhoods.

Welcome!

Great Park.

Huge cypress trees surround the pool!

Welcome to the neighborhood. The pool is pretty great though limited to just 2 months out of the year. Make sure to check out the neighborhood association when you're settled.

Thanks, Tops. We'll definitely joan the neighborhood association. Any other resources/must see or dos/insider tips that you recommend for a new Alta Vista resident?

Does anyone know when the San Pedro Springs open for swimming (i.e., when is the open season)? None of the websites I found state this. I remember we went when we first moved here, in August, when I thought it would be open because it was so HOT, and we were surprised that it was closed for the off-season. We come from Austin where Barton Springs is open all year long, so it was strange to us that the city would close the springs during the hottest month of the year.

They use city water in the pool now. It is no longer spring fed. They are also not interested in maintaining the required employees to keep it open all year.

Unfortunately, the pool is open for a surprisingly short time. Still, we got tons of use out of it last year. We walked by last weekend a few people were already swimming in the springs right behind the pool and a few kids were wading in the murky waters of the pool.
