Does anybody know anyone that can set up a surveillance system for my home. I know they sell them at Costco's but I don't have a clue as to how to install this equipment or use it. Please help. Thanks!

those sets come with good instructions. the hard part is running the cables. other than that its just a matter of plugging it in and setting the schedule.

If you know where you want everything to go, you can hire an electrician to handle that.

according to the system you bought, how sophisticated it is, and how the wiring goes, whether the cameras all have to have their own individual power or do they run off the system, which is more secure, or that kind of thing, or is it a wireless system.

Boy when you are done you're going to have a great sense of protection. I know I do and I only have one camera up right now. I have the ability for 4 cameras with audio.

Where did y'all buy your system? So I need an electrician to set it up? I don't think I could figure it out. Any names of companies that I could hire that do this sort of thing?

Well altex computers sells the really nice stuff and they have people who can put the system in for you. going that route will be far more $$$$ but you will have a great system!

if price is an issue, buy a set from the box stores and ask your friends, someone has a 16 year old kid who could set it up fast! its really like running cable for a TV, again its not hard. Even the power, get the type of camera that gets its power from the cable.

All you do is plug in the recorder, plug in the power unit (to a wall outlet) hang the cameras where you want them (some screws and a cordless drill will do it) run cables from the cameras back to the recorder and power unit. Each cable has 2 plugs; one goes to the power unit, the other to the recorder.

Then you run a set up program on the recorder. That’s it! Not hard.

Default Pan Tilt Zoom Camera

But a Pan Tilt Zoom(PTZ) Camera for the diagonal or every corner of your property. The cheapest is around $200 and they go up to some very nice ones in the $1-2K range. Many are wireless(no cables--you just need a wall socket) and you can monitor the action remotely via the internet. You can also assign passwords to friends or relatives so they can watch holiday festivities, etc. Also, many come with motion detectors that start recording to your hard drive the moment something happens and will even send you an email or text message with a 5 second video attachment. It all hooks into your computer and feeds out through your internet pipe if you desire.

The best part is that you can set it up yourself. Many manufacturers and dealers have remote cameras set up on the internet that allow you to see live feeds yourself using those cameras all of the way around the world.
