I got a nice reply from the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department Public Relations Manager, who stated that the radio report had got it wrong. Currently, the city has ten skate plazas throughout the city, and is going to build three new ones in the coming months: Lackland Terrace Park, Rosedale Park and Nani Falcone Park. It was early, but I am sure I heard 99 KISS say they were building ten new ones.

My son is anxiously awaiting the one at Nani Falcone Park (located near the HEB off of Bandera and Guilbeau), as is the owner of Evolution Skateboards as their new shop is just across the street.

Snake, that Boerne skatepark (http://www.ci.boerne.tx.us/Portals/0/DocsFin/RFQ%20Skatepark.pdf - broken link) sounds cool (http://www.mysanantonio.com/community/Boerne_skate_park_plans_are_unveiled.html - broken link)!

Cheers! M2

I live near Oscar Perez Memorial Park and it seems like a good one to me. I would have to give it five stars for being an upstanding place. I'm not a skater, but I have gone down to the park two times and driven past it many times. It made me almost want to buy a skateboard and go down there just because it seems like a nice place.

To make a long story short: About a year and a half ago, little boys on skateboards busted in and stole a guitar (+...) from my house. I approached skaters in Oscar Perez Memorial Park and they were extremely polite and helpful. In fact, partially through the assistance of the skaters I met in that park, I was able to meet the perpetrators, visit their homes, talk to their parents / grandparents, and I got my guitar back. So I am thankful that the skate park is there and I respect its value as a community resource.

I wholeheartedly agree about the parents and professionals getting involved, the powers that be seem to listen a little more when they see support from us.

Check out what the Houston skatepark organization (PUSH) just got built in their city City of Houston eGovernment Center (http://www.houstontx.gov/parks/lee-joepark.html - broken link)
