A stray cat has given birth in my car.

So, it's not a car I currently drive (gas guzzler)... it's actually my mom's car and I borrowed it before buying my van. Anyway, it has one window that won't go up so the mom decided it was a good spot to have 4 babies a couple days ago.

My neighbor across the street is elderly and feeds all the strays. She also has as many spayed/neutered as she can on her fixed income. She has a deal w/the vet who does it for $10 a cat! So, I told her I'd help pay to get some of these babies fixed when they're old enough to help find them homes. As well as the mama cat... if she'll take them to her vet to do it, I'll help out with the cost.

We are actually thinking we might keep one, they are soooo cute... but I guess Craigslist will be the best bet to find them homes?

I worry about them in the car. I opened the other windows, but we didn't want to move them around since the mom is feral and they are so tiny.

You'll have to ask Spamatdan as he's hosting the next M and G. Although, I have it on good authority that he's a fan of kittens!

Hope you're able to find them good homes and that they do well in this heat until then.....

Maybe you shouild put someting over the windows to (like a reflective visor or a white sheet or something) to help lower the temp. Maybe buckets of ice during the day? A patio umbrella? That's all I can think of. Anyone else have any ideas to help these kitties avoid heat stroke?

Isn't there a free spay/neuter program in the city? I know they do it a few times per year.

We adopted our cat as a little kitten who wandered onto our doorstep. Our neighbor's cat (who's kind of like an annoying brother to ours) was acquired by us as a 'gift' to them when our babysitter rescued 4 baby kittens....

So keep one, and start asking around. you'll find homes. Keep the windows open, and is there water and food for the momma?

here is a sight I came upon when searching for pet adoptions, perhaps they can give some insight on keeping the little ones healthy until they can find homes

OMG, is there an ugly one? I'm all over ugly cats. My cat now started out ugly and grew up to be pretty (bummer) so I'm still looking for that perfect ugly kitty!

It might take me a while to find one! I have this mental picture and its this cat I remember from our old house off of Bitters and Heimer that just kind of adopted us. . or our porch rather. It was multi colored and while most of the colors were medium to light tones it had a few strategically placed dark patches including one that looked like a Hitler moustache! My mother affectionately called it SH*TTY Kitty when she came over and saw it hanging out, out front because she said it looked like SH*T. This was coming from a woman who RARELY cusses so you know the poor kitty was ugly! I want one like that. . . I don't know why. I just do. I love ugly animals!!

This happened to my family when I was in high school. My Dad was cleaning up a peice of property next to our house and there was an OLD car on it. He heard the mewling of VERY small kittens. He took them and put them in a box in the barn next to the empty lot and waited for the Mother. When he came back to tell me about it and I found out that there was ONE black one, I went and took him from the box and bottle fed him. He was so young, his eyes weren't open yet.
His name was Ebony and he was my baby and my first ever black cat.

As long as you locate the kittens close by, the Feral Mother will find them. You will have to take them from her or the kittens will be wild however but you of course can't take them too young unless you want to bottle feed them.

I would be concerned about leaving them out in the heat for this time of the year.

I do hope you have pictures of them, I LOVE pictures of kitties.
