Hi all-- just wanted to ask for any suggestions on games that you and your family may have bought and really like. We do a family game night (kids ages 5 and 10) and we have gotten a little bored with what we have. I don't want to go spend $30 on a game that is a dud. We have mini monopoly, operation, perfection, disney shout, trouble. Any suggesstions on some more good games would be appreciated! thanks

We have a blast playing Uno and Phase 10. Your 5 year old could probably even keep up--neither one is that difficult.

We also do Pictionary, but you don't even need to buy that one. Just have plenty of blank paper and pencils/pens to draw with, and some to keep score with/on.

Outburst is fun. Sorry is fun. We bought a game years ago called Malarky that we had a ton of fun playing with my son and his friends--everyone has to lie about what a particular word or phrase means, and only one person tells the actual real meaning--you basically have to pick the one telling the truth.

Spoons is another really fun card game, but the 5 year old may not be able to play, and at my house, it gets pretty vicious!

Game nights rock!!

We still love playing Sorry (alot like trouble). Deck of cards are always good to have. Clue. If you have playstation, there is Buzztime trivia for that!

I always loved UNO! You can get a deck for $5. The five year old will probably be fine.

Scattagories and jinga are fun (you can pick up jinga for about $6 ). Scattagories is probably for older kids but I think they make a junior version.

I second Uno and spoons too.

Apples to Apples!!!! We love that game. We have 12 and 13 year old boys and have been playing this game for a few years with them. We prefer the original and the boys do pretty well with it, but we also use the Jr edition. It is so much fun for us and we learn about how each of us think and about our personalities.

Added: I just read that the youngest version starts at age 7. So, it may be difficult with your 5 year old. What we do is just whisper to the boy that doesn't understand the meaning of the word on his card. I just figure it adds to their vocabulary :-)

OK, I'll go ahead and say now that I'm an addict of board games. I've even been to a weekend convention about board games. CRAZY I know...

A great game that my 5 yr old likes as much as we do is Pickomino... encourages counting and math besides being a fun dice game.

Amazing Labryinth is good too - puzzle / spatial game of finding a path through a maze.

Apples to applies is good if your youngest can read -- they make a "junior" version of this with simpler words too.

Another good "all ages" game that's fun for everyone is 'Hey, That's My Fish'.

Finally, if your kids are boys, you can't go wrong with 'Pitchcar'. You'll have to order this online, I'm pretty sure - even the local stores that carry non-mainstream games don't have it - but it's HOURS of fun.
