I went to Hamilton Pool this morning, Tuesday, July 15, 2008. I've heard about this site since 1963, but it was my first trip. Its about 20 miles north of Dripping Springs. $8.00 a carload. If your over 62 you get in free. My trip was free.

Okay, now I'm going to put some pics of Edge Falls up.

Edge Falls is located in Kendall County, between Boerne and Hwy 281, just north of Hwy 46. Hamilton Pool is located on the far southwest corner of Travis County, near Hays County, just north of Dripping Springs.

The formations are the same. Both are karst or caverns that have collapsed due to water erosion above. See karst formations, Karst topography - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. And both are probably in the Glen Rose Formation, dating back about 85,000,000 years. The pool at Edge Falls is larger by 1 1/2 to 2 times and Edge Falls is deeper, 30 feet to 22 feet for Hamilton Pool. But I find the geological formations much more striking at Hamilton Pool. The cliff walls are higher at Hamilton Pool.

Edge Falls has been closed to the public since 1975 due to insurance rates. Hamilton Pool was almost in the same fix in mid 80's. As a result, the owner of Hamilton Pool decided to sell the property to the state for a state park. The owner of Edge Falls sold the property to a doctor in Houston and the property has been closed ever since.
