Hello,

I grew up in Colonies North (moved there from the other side of the airport in 1976) and played many a video-game at the Colonies North Theater. Used to watch the double feature every Saturday and this is where I first saw "Heavy Metal" & "American Pop".
At the end was Winns and a Record store called Davy Jones Locker.
Handy Andy was the other side of the mall, worked there for a couple of yrs. during High school (Clark).
That mall was GREAT!
Every Sunday there was a Flea market with all sorts of cool stuff.
The Winns was a variety of Bars for many years after Winns closed.
Around the corner on Colony Dr. was the infamous "Hickory Hut Bar-B-Q" which produced some of the finest grub that I have ever had...slow cooked brisket over an oak fire, cooked for 18 hours minimum.

The gas station on the other side was called J's and was the place to be when I was going to high school. On a Friday or Saturday night there would be hundreds of people hanging out and having fun till it was ruined by a bunch of punks from Boerne that started coming down and starting fights...all jocks. Someone finally got stabbed and that was the end of that, the police started running everyone off.

Where the Albertson's was there was a cow farm. DeZavala where I went to high school was in the sticks.

Wonderland was the "Big" mall. Loved the Wonderland Theater where I saw the original "Star Wars" & "Indiana Jones!"

Miss the old days, times were slower and simpler before the constant connectivity of today.

Does it say $5.50 for an adult ticket? $5.50 in the 1970's?

It was a different type of theatre. Catered to the older crowd and played old classics.

Jefferson was not even close to being the best school, the best schools were of course -where the money was.
Til' the Edgewood suit.
I read that and remember Marshall and John Jay back then as I knew kids who went to those schools. I went to South San.

This particular branch of City-Data is a breath of fresh air compared that concerning my my town; DC. I spent the month of August down there and almost hate being here.

I remember the mall in the early 80's, Winn's was always a stop as was Handy Andy. It's a shame the mall was closed up and just accessible from the outside. I think Winn's and Handy Andy lasted in the late 80's early 90's.

What was the name of the steakhouse up IH35 past Selma, but before the Snake Farm?

It had a giant cowboy outside and was on the West side of IH 35.

So you would head north, then go under and come back heading south.

Many thanks!!!!!
