A few years later they actually bought a plot and had custom plans drawn up for a house near present day USAA, but they couldn't get an interest rate under 18%.
So did they build? You ended this like they didn't move forward due to the interest rates...what is the rest of the story?

Sorry, no they didn't build. They decided to instead remodel their current house, and as a result I went to MacArthur instead of Clark.

Like MacArthur, Marshall was originally Northside High School, the first HS in the then rural Northside ISD.

My dad lived in Harmony Hills (west side of San Pedro right where 281 meets it) back in the early '60s and talks about how SP was just a little 2 lane road until it got inside 410. Harmony Hills was at the edge of town pretty much. North Star was brand new and had an HEB on one end.

No kidding. When we moved here in 1994 my parents bought a house out in Country Place - a community north of 1604 off 281 but just south of the county line (still in Bexar county). Back in 1994 my parents purchased their 3000 square foot one story home on four gated acres on Ramblewood for $190,000. The only buildings at 281/1604 were the Bill Miller on the Southwest corner and the Insurance/bank building on the North East corner. The closest HEB was at Brook Hollow. It really felt like my parents lived way out in the country. A two years and a kitchen remodel later they sold that house for $275,000. That house today is probably worth about $400K! (they regret selling) If someone had told me that in 14 years the city would have grown so far north of 1604 I wouldn't have believed them. Like I said - we lived here in 1984 and 281 North outside 1604 was like going to another city...a long drive and out in the middle of nowhere.

That's what it feels like just driving to S. Presa and 410 on the southside, or SE Military towards WW White - there are horses and cows around.... you feel like you're in the country and can still see downtown.

I remember faintly when I was Probably less than ten years old, most likely before 1960. I have faint memories of a gas station like maybe an old truck stop. It was in the sw corner of 281 & 1604. Seemed like a junk yard around it. Very desolate as I recall. Think my fathers old 51' or 52 GMC truck broke down there.

Does anyone know what was on the hill behind where Cervantes gas station was north of Leon Springs exit off I-10. Overlooked the old Quarry before they built Fiesta Texas. It had a winding road up to the top. I'm pretty sure it's still there. Was up there long time ago . It was like a big cafeteria with a big rock patio out front facing south. There were 2-3 little cottages or small bldgs. around it. You entered at the foot of the hill next to a little side rd. off I-10 access Rd. Old casino or speak easy maybe?
